Kia Motors and its Chinese joint-venture partner, Dongfeng Yueda Kia, Kia unveiled the K2 B-segment sedan at the Shanghai Auto Show 2011 - announces the new Kia Rio to reach Europe in the late summer of 2011.
Based on the principle of any new Kia Rio, which made its world premiere in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the new Kia K2 has been designed and built specifically for the Chinese market and this is the production of plants Dongfeng Yueda Kia in Jiangsu Province will begin in June this year. 5-door hatchback version of the K2 and Kia will begin production in August this year.
Kia K2 is positioned as a premium small car with a cutting edge design and improved levels of quality and performance and should be a very competitive offer in a segment that represents 16 percent of all new car sales in China.
Kia Kia K2 is the next step of the strategy to better respond to customers around the world in developing and marketing, which reflect local needs and tastes. After the introduction of the cee'd family of vehicles in segment C and come MPV segment B, which is designed and built specifically for European customers, the new Kia K2 is a clear indication of Kia's commitment to become a leading brand car in China.
Speaking at the Kia press conference at the Shanghai Motor Show, Hyoung-Keunen Lee, Vice President of Kia Motors, said: "We are confident that this new model for China will give a new impetus for Kia, not only to remain as one of China's fastest growing automotive brands, but also to become a top 10 car manufacturers in the local market in terms of quality and satisfaction.
While sharing the same technical basis as the new Rio, the K2 has been completely redesigned for the Chinese market, based on the popular style K5 sedan (known as "new optimism" in many markets), including sophisticated lines that create a dynamic exterior, daring and sophisticated.
In front of the signature properties Kia "tiger nose" grille and exudes a high-technology design innovative and daring fog lights, a large air intake and fog again overwhelmed. Half-light on the edge of half of the product line and the edge frame, a more sporty Kia K2 still viewed from the rear features two-tone bumper and a combination of modern lamps.

Measuring 4370 mm (length) of 1,700 mm (full width) by 1460 mm (height), K2 Kia is longer, wider and lower than the previous generation Rio has a longer wheelbase (2,570 mm) in class. K2 dimensions allow Kia to expand demand the best in class interior space and luggage capacity of 500 liters (VDA). The use of space is further enhanced by the 60/40 split rear seats.
K2 Kia will be available to Chinese customers in six trim levels with either a 1.4-liter or 1.6 liter gasoline Gamma mated to a manual or automatic transmission.
